Spoken of by Dr. Sebi –  Irish Sea Moss also known as Irish moss is a source of potassium chloride, a nutrient which helps to dissolve catarrhs (inflammation and phlegm in the mucous membranes), which cause congestion. It contains compounds which act as natural antimicrobial and antiviral agents, helping to boost immunity and get rid of most infections.

Thyroid Health – Perhaps one of the most important and undervalued benefits of this sea moss is its ability to help balance thyroid hormones. Irish Moss contains the vital thyroid hormone precursor DI-Iodothyronine (DIT), and the thyroid hormones Thyroxin (T4) and Tri-iodothyronine (T3). These have been found to be the main organically bound iodine compounds in brown sea moss (Irish Moss). Irish Moss is also extremely high in the trace element iodine – the thyroid gland contains the highest concentration of iodine than any other organ in the body. You cannot make thyroid hormones without sufficient levels of iodine. Dr David Brownstein, a natural health practitioner with over 20 years experience in his field, found that over 95% of patients with thyroid disorders were iodine deficient. Heavy In Nutrients – The human body is made up of 102 minerals and Irish Moss contains a whopping 92 of them. It also provides a wealth of other important nutrients including; protein, beta-carotene, B vitamins, pectin, vitamin C and sulphur. One of the most important of these nutrients is a sulphur-containing amino acid called taurine, which is more abundant in Irish moss than any other seaweed – a nutrient that is commonly lacking in vegetarian and vegan diets. Digestive Support –  The high fiber content in Irish Moss exerts a mild laxative effect whilst soothing inflamed tissues within the intestinal tract, potentially providing relief from a whole host of intestinal disorders. It’s demulcent,  (relieving inflammation or irritation) properties promote healthy digestion – soothing the membranes of the digestive tract. The gelatin like content helps to ease gastritis, dyspepsia, nausea, heartburn and indigestion.  

Weight Loss –  Irish Moss is thought to help reduce the appetite due to its ability to absorb moisture, increasing its volume and filling the intestinal tract with a bulking type material, thus increasing the feeling of fullness. Its gentle laxative effect can promote the elimination process of waste through the gastrointestinal tract. The aforementioned iodine content can boost metabolism which in turn will increase energy and can help to accelerate weight loss.

• Remove from package and soak 1 cup of Irish Moss in a bowl of water for 20 minutes to let all the sand and debris float to the bottom of the bowl. Remove the Irish moss by picking it up out of the bowl and placing it in a strainer. Rinse well to get any extra sand or debris off.
• Used along with Isinglass, Gum Arabic and Linseed to make a refreshing drink.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Thoroughly was you Irish Sea Moss. You can also soak them in lukewarm water for a few hours, but this will remove a small amount of its gelatinous texture.
2. Place the Irish Moss inside a colander,(a bowl used to strain off liquids) and give it another good rinse to get rid of the debris and sand particles. You will be able to tell if the Irish Moss is ready when the water absorbs and it weighs twice as much as its original or dry form.
3. Take a large kettle and fill it up with 5 quarts of water
4. While boiling your water, toss in the gum acacia, Irish Moss, linseed and isinglass. Cook these ingredients for 40 to 45 minutes until they all dissolve, with the exception of the Irish Moss. Strain the liquid and throw away the Irish Moss.( you can also blend all these ingredients together instead of throwing away the moss)
5. Mix in the remaining ingredients into the mixture. Include some syrup or anything that can enhance the flavor to your liking.
6. Add 1 cup of water if it is too thick. Place your drink inside the fridge for 4 hours, and serve.
